Located at the south-western tip of the Lisboa region, Colares and its vines lie within two miles of the Altantic Ocean. The strong and salty sea winds have
brought many problems to Colares’ wine industry. Therefore, vines have to be protected from the wind, and this is achieved through use of hand-made palisades
of dried canes sewn with wicker. The sand based soils have also had the benefit of keeping away from phylloxera bugs.
The region is known for its deep Colored, full bodied red wines that are high in astringent tannins.
